The environment

Rock of Solutré

Like a sphinx amidst the Mâconnais wine region, the Rock of Solutré seems to be watching visitors. The mountain was formed by a rare geological phenomenon. This natural monument is the emblem of Southern Burgundy. You don't have to be a geologist to appreciate this spectacular panorama... More than just a rock, it's a "Grand Site" to discover!

The abbey church of Cluny

In 2010, six Western European countries celebrated the 1,100th anniversary of the founding of Cluny Abbey. A visit to the impressive remains of the abbey church is a wonderful way to begin a pleasant stay in the Clunisian region and explore its heritage and equestrian tradition. As a major stage of the Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo, the area around Cluny also offers numerous trails for horse and rider. The creation of the stables under Napoleon I preceded the construction of the Cluny National Stud Farm. Its stables are open to visitors.

A journey along the wine routes

One of the many wine routes in the region is the Mâconnais-Beaujolais Wine Route (the vineyards of the south).

This route, which follows on from two other wine routes from Dijon, leads you to the region south of the Saône-et-Loire. It traverses the Mâconnais vineyards in a straight line, ending in Romanèche-Thorins (Saône-et-Loire), where the first vineyards appear on the slopes of the Beaujolais. Eight different itineraries offer a comprehensive introduction to the southern part of the Burgundian vineyards, off the beaten track.
